Background Information: The May Day Mystery refers to a series of extremely cryptic advertisements that have been taken out in a college newspaper every year since the 1970's or early 80's. No one knows exactly when they started, but they have appeared in the University of Arizona's Daily Wildcat on or around the 1st of May each year.Created and funded by an unknown party, the annual messages contain references to history, geography, mathematics and sciences, current and ancient languages, world religions, puzzles and riddles, a tangled web of obscure pop-culture nods, an undiscovered treasure, and a mysterious group known as The Orphanage. A loyal group of online followers has been working for years to make sense of the ads, but no one seems to be any closer to identifying their meaning or origin.
